Orienteering Training

We were really lucky in the Senior Team to have Jane and Phillipa from Sport Hawkes Bay come to teach us some more about Orienteering.

It was brilliant! Scampering around the school, guided by an amazing fusion of old and new technology, we all quickly adapted and got pretty good at Orienteering.

After we had finished, we were told a little about what was waiting for us in the Redwoods. Can't wait until Friday to find out a little more.

Building a growth mindset

Wow! That holiday flew past and now we find ourselves in the most exciting term of all. I hope everyone had a wonderful relaxing time.

This term we have lots of different focuses, but there is one in particular I am working extra hard on: building a growth mindset in everybody including myself.

This is something I am improving too, because I know that I really don't like being wrong sometimes, or seeing people who are better at doing things than me. Sometimes I'm more worried about getting the right answer sometimes than recognising how hard I've worked, or what I've learned.

To help remind me and everyone else of how changing our words can start to change our thinking, I've created a display with lots of the things we say, and how we can change what we say to continue building a growth mindset.

Come and visit our classroom and have a look at it, its really colourful and filled full of good ideas.

Aside from that, make sure you have a good read of our Senior Team Newsletter. It includes so much important information; I cannot emphasize that enough!

Looking forward to seeing everyone throughout this fantastic term.

Trip to Pipi's Pizza

On Thursday we went on a trip to Pipi's Pizza!

This was as part of our inquiry, seeing how food gets from field to table. Suffice to say, the part when the food gets to table is definitely the most interesting according to our stomachs.

Chris taught us how to take dough, shape it, and apply the toppings so that we could make a delicious margherita pizza.

Here is a picture of us getting stuck in:

After expending lots of energy shaping the dough and topping the pizza there was only one way we could recover: we ate the results. Turns out they were absolutely delicious!

Calendar Art!

We have prepared lots of calendar art for everyone to purchase, and below I will show all the images. I haven't included the names because that should be clear based on the images! Hope you enjoy.

Hope you have enjoyed our art.

Our trip to Rockit Apples

Here are a few snaps of our trip to see Rockit apples.

We were lucky enough to have a look around the orchard and then to come back to the packhouse.

We had lots of questions to ask, and now have lots of new knowledge to add to our food and drink inquiry.

Room 4 would like to send a massive thank you to Nigel, Hayley, Mr Kinsey, Kelly, Jennifer and Bernadette. Without you we wouldn't have had a trip!

Thanks everyone!

Farewell, Clemmie!

Last Friday we had to say farewell to Clemmie. She headed back to London, and everyone in Room 4 wanted to say goodbye to her. Some of us made her cards, some of us gave her presents, and we even took some photographs of our class together for her to take with her.

We are hoping to have some video chats with her so that we can find out what school is like in London and what she is getting up to over in the UK. All the best, Clemmie! Kia kaha!

iWay Cycle Training

A sunny start!

Today, Therese and Lyndall came into school to teach us the rules and skills required to be able to cycle safely. This is especially important because of how Hawkes Bay is learning to become more cycle friendly.

We learned the ABC checklist for making sure our bikes were ready to ride, and learned that it is entirely illegal to ride a bike without a helmet in New Zealand.

We then learned a huge number of cycle skills and played games to test them. We learned to mount our bike and dismount safely while moving. We also learned to look back over our shoulder safely so as to avoid swerving into traffic. A big thank you to everyone who made this happen!
